Industrial Gases
in India and Southeast Asia

In 2013, we launched our industrial gas business in India when our Group began acquiring local industrial gas companies. In 2019, following a merger between two gas majors, we acquired a portion of their industrial gas businesses in India. Since then, we have been developing our gas truck  and cylinder operations in eastern and southern India with a focus on providing on-site supply to steel mills, a business in which we have an extensive track record in India. Looking to Southeast Asia, we opened an air separation plant in Vietnam in 2014, which represents our first such plant outside Japan. Since then, we have been steadily expanding our business while pursuing continued market growth.

In 2019, we acquired an industrial gas business in India that primarily supplied gas on-site to that country’s two largest steelmakers. This business was acquired from the Indian subsidiaries of Linde Plc and Praxair Inc. (which had merged in 2018 to become Linde PLC)

As a result of this acquisition, we can now produce industrial gases (in the form of oxygen, nitrogen, and argon) at our large-scale cryogenic air separation plant in the upstream field. This is enabling us to establish a business foundation in the industrial gas sector and an external sales structure to supply self-produced industrial gases and medical oxygen by means of gas trucks and in cylinders. In this way we are establishing a solid position as an industrial gas producer in India. These businesses are operated by Air Water India Pvt. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Air Water Inc.

Air Water India plans to continue growing its business by employing the basic strategies of acquiring new projects for on-site supply to steelmakers and establishing a manufacturing and logistics infrastructure by enlarging its foundation. By expanding into the southern part of the country, where the automobile industry is concentrated, as well as the northern area of the National Capital Region of Delhi, Air Water India aims to establish a supply chain and increase its market share.

In 2014, Air Water Vietnam Co., Ltd. established a liquefied gas production plant and filling station in Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Province. From that location, the company supplies gas through pipes  to Japanese electric furnace manufacturers in the region. This company supplies various gases by means of gas trucks and cylinders to manufacturing companies located in Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding areas. In 2022, the company constructed a general gas filling station in Ha Nam Province in northern Vietnam. Air Water Vietnam will continue to expand its sales of industrial gases in preparation for the proposed construction of a liquefied gas production plant.
