The Air Water Group’s Initiatives for the SDGs

The sustainable development goals, or SDGs, were adopted at the United Nations Summit in September 2015. Scheduled for achievement by 2030, they share the common philosophy of “leave no one behind.” The SDGs aim to realize a sustainable society by solving social issues such as population growth, poverty, inequality, and global environmental problems caused by climate change.

Under its overarching management philosophy, the Air Water Group contributes to society as a global resource recycling company that manufactures products in a manner friendly to both people and the environment. It achieves this with a focus on conserving the global environment and by using and circulating air, water, and other resources in a waste-free manner. We remain committed to preserving a healthy planet and society for future generations.

The Air Water Sustainability Vision for the year 2050 is dedicated to the emergence of a society committed to recycling in harmony with the planet. Positioning 2030 as the milestone year for the SDGs under the concept of “meeting society’s needs with nature’s blessings,” we are contributing to the emergence of a society committed to recycling through our business operations. At the same time, we are targeting zero environmental impacts and revitalization of the global environment and local communities. We will continue to be the first choice of our customers and will be working toward achieving the SDGs and ensuring the well-being of our employees.

Our SDGs Implementation System

In April 2020, we established the SDGs Implementation Committee, chaired by the Chairman and CEO, in order to promote the implementation of the SDGs. Furthermore, that same month we established SDGs Promotion Division headed by the managing director in charge of full-time operations and adopted a system for implementing the SDGs throughout the Group.

The SDG Implementation Committee has three project promotion systems: the Enlarged Committee Meeting, which deliberates and evaluates the direction and content of SDG initiatives, the Business Implementation Staff Meeting, which helps divisions and operating companies resolve challenges related to the SDGs; and the Headquarters Implementation Project Meeting, which is responsible for company-wide initiatives.

SDGs Promotion Division plans and implements various measures to promote the Air Water Group’s SDG initiatives, promotes the dissemination of SDG initiatives within the Group, and shares information and confirms progress.

Initiatives for the SDGs

The scope of the Air Water Group’s businesses is broad. Accordingly, we examined how to approach the SDGs by first identifying the various aspects and characteristics of each business.

The SDG Implementation Committee analyzed how business operations encompassing both manufacturing and sales impact to the SDGs up and down the value chain. They also determined how these operations can make a significant contribution to the SDGs.

Specifically, we mapped the 17 goals of the SDGs and their 169 targets against our business operations and identified targets that could contribute to strengthening positive contributions and minimize negative impacts across all our business activities. By developing business operations that take into account positive contributions and negative impacts, we aim to contribute to the emergence of a sustainable society.

Through its business operations, the Air Water Group is contributing to the achievement of the SDGs by developing and providing products and services that address SDG targets 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13, and 15 in terms of environmental value and targets 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, and 11 in terms of social value.
